Seven Grams on Charlton & Varick
The name Seven Grams is an ode to the Italian standard of making an espresso shot with exactly seven grams of ground coffee.
This cafe is a cute nook on a quieter street in South Village, but I have to say I prefer the other coffee shops in the area, like La Colombe. The Seven Grams in Chelsea also has a wider pastries selection: think 4 types of fresh-baked cookies - chocolate, double chocolate, matcha, oatmeal raisin. Not so here. My blueberry lemon cake tasted dry, like it had been sitting out for a long time.
Some of the baristas here were not super friendly either, but maybe it was just an off day. No Wi-Fi (Yelp is wrong). AC is on blast, so take note if you get cold easily!
I've got a soft spot for having my coffee for here in cozy mugs. If you're ocd like me and care about matching cups and plates, note that the matching owl cup is only for a small latte!
